The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has decided to observe June 3 as ‘Bengal Solidarity Day. The decision has been taken in the meeting of the national office-bearers held recently in virtual mode. Hiranmay Pandya, President BMS presided over the meeting. As a part of Bengal Solidarity Day, the BMS units will conduct webinars, seminars and gate meetings by following COVID-19 norms laid down by the respective State Governments. At the same time, BMS units will also send memorandum to Chief Minister and Governor of West Bengal demanding immediate action on those TMC activists who perpetuated violence on poor workers like fisherman, weavers, and street vendors.

 

In South 24 Parganas district and East Medinapur district, fisherman were driven out of their villages, in several parts of the State, electric rickshaws (totos) were broken and weaving equipments of handloom artisans were destroyed. Beedi workers are not getting material after threatening Beedi owners in several districts, brutal attacks were made on plantation workers, gate passes of contract workers in industrial units were snatched, burning and looting of street vendors shops, continuous threatening to State Government employees etc., are few examples of terror unleashed by TMC activists, it was alleged in the meeting.

 

Things have not become normal even after one month. BMS strongly feels that the attacks on ordinary labour class are an attack on human rights and fundamental rights, informs a press release by Suresh Chaudhari, Chief PRO of BMS, Vidarbha Pradesh. The national office bearers meeting has also decided to conduct International Yoga Day on June 21 in massive way.
