Help farmers by using ethanol-blended petrol, diesel to save environment: Bhakar

Centre for Agriculture Science, Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) and Indian Oil jointly celebrated World Environment Day on Saturday with an appeal to plant at least one sapling each to reduce pollution-level. After live telecast of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s address through webcast, Senior Scientist and Centre Head, Dr Rashmi Shukla briefed about the programme held with the inspiration of Vice-chancellor, JNAU, Professor P K Bisen. Director, Extension Services, JNAU, Dr D P Sharma was chief guest who inaugurated the programme by lighting a traditional lamp in front of the portrait of Goddess Saraswati. Dr Sharma said, “Along with environment conservation, we also need to save our foreign currency spend to purchase petroleum products.
 
We can help to strengthen farmers’ income by promoting use of ethanol in petrol which is considered useless in our country.” During live telecast, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi mentioned about significance of ethanol to save environment and informed that around 20 per cent ethanol will be blended in petroleum products by 2025 to reduce Carbon-di-oxide in environment. The Prime Minister has also inaugurated e-100 Petrol Pumps (Ethanol mixed Petrol). In his address, Manoj Bhakar, Sales Officer, Indian Oil encouraged to use ethanol-blended petrol and diesel to save environment and informed that these products are quite safe to use.
 
Later, plantation campaign was carried out at the campus of Centre for Agriculture Science under the leadership of Nodal Officer, Dr D K Singh. Director, Extension Services, Dr D P Sharma and Centre In-charge, Dr Rashmi Shukla also planted saplings with other staff members including Dr Harish Dixit, Dr Shekhar Singh Baghel, Dr A K Singh, Dr Neelu Vishwakarma, Dr Pramod Gupta, Dr Akshara Tomar and others. Dr Yatiraj Khare proposed a vote of thanks.
