As the restrictions on opening of shops were extended till 5 pm by the Civic Administration, mango sellers were witnessing more footfalls and good demand for the ‘king of fruit’ on Monday. Also, there was excitement and enthusiasm among the people in the different markets of the city. “Good demand for Begumpalli variety has inflated its prices between Rs 20 per kg and Rs 32 per kg in the Kalamna wholesale fruit market,” said Anand Dongre, President of Nagpur Fruit Dealers Association while speaking to The Hitavada. On an average, 160 to 175 trucks are supplying mangoes to the wholesale market.

 

The supply has dropped significantly as last month an average 200 to 250 trucks were coming to the market. When the mango season started in April there was an average of 30 to 40 trucks coming to the market. As the mango season is coming to an end the supplies are dropping from Andhra Pradesh. In the wholesale market, the Begumpalli is being quoted in the range of Rs 20 per kg to Rs 32 per kg as compared to last months prices at Rs 15 per kg to Rs 25 per kg. In April, the prices were higher and were quoted at Rs 40 per kg to Rs 50 per kg, he said. The Begumpalli variety is coming in bulk quantities from Southern parts of the country like Kurnool, Warangal and other districts of Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, the arrival of Dassahari from Lucknow has just begun from the past four days. It is being quoted at Rs 25 per kg to Rs 32 per kg in the wholesale market.

 

On an average three to four trucks are unloading the mango in the market. Similarly, the local Langada variety is being quoted at Rs 20 per kg to 40 per kg. Also, the popular Totapalli variety is being quoted at Rs 15 per kg to Rs 20 per kg, in the wholesale market, he said. All the mango varieties are getting good response from the consumers as the shop timings have been relaxed, he said.
