BSP Trade Unions stage protest for wage revision

BSP TRADE union leaders and its active members staged a vehement demonstration at all five gates of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) for fulfilment of their demands including Wage revision, Minimum Guaranteed Benefits (MGB), Perks and contribution in pension fund.
Barring a few incidents of heated arguments of union members, the BSP trade unions strike on Wednesday was almost peaceful. While trade union’ leaders claimed that the strike was a sucxess as many remained absent from the production site severely affecting the production in most of the shops in BSP. However contrary to this claim the BSP management maintained that attendance on the day of strike call was normal and so as the production.
From the early morning trade union leaders and active members in large number started gathering at different gates of the plant. As usual the union leaders requested the BSP employees going for work during the first shift to not attend the duty, however they did not create any hurdles for the employees willing to join duty.
Condemning the management trade union leaders were seen shouting slogans at the time of various shifts of the plant and appealing workers to join strike. However, at some places during the demonstration the trade union members were also seen clapping in derogative manner and discouraging workers going inside the plant for attending their duty.
S P Dey, General Secretary, Hindustan Steel Employees Union (CITU) claimed that the strike was successful and workers from Blast Furnace 1 to 7, Merchant Mills, Coke Oven and from various shops and mills joined the strike voluntarily.
