IN yet another major catch, huge consignment of cannabis weighing 88 kg worth over Rs 17 lakh was seized, while being smuggled from Odisha to Chhattisgarh through waterways. Tendukona police seized the consignment while being smuggled in a boat through River Jonk. However, the accused managed his escape. As per police sources, the absconding accused has been identified as Devlal Bariha (35), resident of Lilesar resident of Bundeli under Tendukona police station limits. It is worth mentioning here that following the instructions of Superintendent of Police Divyang Kumar Patel, district police have been continuously monitoring the activities of the miscreants indulged in anti-social activities. Tendukona police received a tip-off about a man was smuggling a huge quantity of cannabis through the Jonk River in a boat. Following the information, a team let the miscreant cross the River and tried to arrest him after cordoning off the area.
 
However, the accused threw the cannabis bags on the River bank and managed his escape. But, in attempt to flee he dropped his phone in the River. Police found his mobile phone and identified him. Police seized the cannabis which was 88 kg valued at Rs 17, 60,000. The accused has been booked relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Search for the absconding accused is on. Cyber cell in-charge Sanjay Singh Rajput, Bundeli police outpost in-charge Manorath Joshi, Head Constable Prakash Nand, Shrawan Kumar Das, Minesh Singh Dhruv and many other police personnel were part of the action.
