A FREAK mishap saw a 35-year-old man riding pillion on a scooterette getting killed with the shards of a broken glass bottle he was carrying when the two-wheeler allegedly crashed into a tanker in Kalamna area, on Monday. The deceased, Rajesh Sushil Warhade was a resident of Plot No 104, Talmale Layout, near Amit Flour Mill, Bharatwada Road. Mohammad Shoaib Mohammad Noorain (24), who was riding a TVS Jupiter (MH-31/E-W-1963) recklessly, suffered minor injuries.

Riding pillion on Mohammad Shoaib’s scooterette, Rajesh was carrying a liquor bottle with him. Mohammad Shoaib, who was riding at a high speed, tried to overtake a water tanker but lost control of the vehicle around 3.15 pm. Rajesh and Mohammad Shoaib fell off the scooterette as it skidded off the road after allegedly crashing into the water tanker. The bottle which Rajesh had in his shirt was smashed due to the impact and its shards pierced into his abdomen.

Passers-by rushed a profusely bleeding Rajesh to Mayo Hospital where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead.’ After recording the statement of Sushil Kamlaprasad Warhade (60), father of the deceased, Kalamna Police registered an offence under sections 279 and 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code against Mohammad Shoaib.
