For Gurjinder Pal Singh, the suspended IPS officer of Chhattisgarh Police, ‘trouble’ seems to have decided to go ‘hand-in-hand’ with him all the way long, as he is bound for a head-on with another fresh stock of problems. The new lot of trouble has come in the form of State Government’s directives to initiate probe against the errant officer in three different matters, albeit these are pertaining with old-shut cases. The probes have been ordered in the wake of different complaints lodged with State Administration within the past three days. “Say it a twisted turn of events, G P Singh, the once-upon-a-time hotshot IPS officer, who used to rule the roost the barrel of power used to move ‘to and from’ him, is beholden by all sum of the troubles,” observed a senior IPS officer, requesting anonymity on the sidelines of three fresh probes ordered against Gurjinder Pal Singh.

Sources, in the meantime, averred to The Hitavada that State Government has appointed Special Director General of Police (SDGP) Ashok Juneja as the Investigation Officer (IO) in one case; the remaining two would be probed by Durg Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vivekananda Sinha and Raipur Range IGP Dr Anand Chhabra respectively. “In all these three cases, which are to be probed, have serious allegations against Gurjinder Pal Singh, which says he misused his official position to influence and impede a criminal investigation and embezzling a sum of Rs 2 crore recovered from the possession of a most-wanted surrendered Maoist and another allegation is to shield an accused into the complaint lodged by a woman,” the sources maintained.

According to the sources, SDG Juneja will be probing an incident that took place in 2013 at the office of Raipur Superintendent of Police wherein a minor boy and his family allegedly had a dispute with the officials. In this connection, Durlabh Agrawal, who was minor at the time of incident, filed a complaint against the then Raipur Range IG Singh, SP O P Pal and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Archana Jha to the PMO, Chief Minister, NHRC and Chhattisgarh’s Director General of Police. It was alleged that Singh, who was entrusted with the task of probing the incident, without investigating the matter stated in the media that he had watched the CCTV footage and no offence was reflected in it. Durg Range IG Vivekananda Sinha will be probing a complaint in which it was alleged that G P Singh had misappropriated the money belonging to ultras while posted as the IG of Durg Range, said the sources. In the complaint it was alleged that in 2016, a naxal cadre Pahad Singh was arrested following which Rs 2 crore belonging to the banned outfit was recovered by ASP Y P Singh and the entire amount embezzled by G P Singh, averred the sources. In another complaint against the suspended IPS officer, Manjeet Kaur Bal alleged that the officer had attempted to save accused Kamalkant Tiwari in a case.

It may be recalled that based on the documents recovered from IPS Singh and his associate Mani Bhushan from his residence during the raid, Raipur’s Kotwali police booked the ADGP rank officer under Sections 124-A (sedition) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The documents recovered by the State Economic Offence Investigation and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SEOIACB) during the raids revealed that Singh was allegedly involved in promoting enmity and hatching a conspiracy against the established government and public representatives. During the three-daylong search carried out at 15 locations of IPS Singh, the ADGP rank officer who was posted as Director of state police academy, SEOIACB claimed to have unearthed properties and investments to the tune of around Rs 10 crore along with recovery of several incriminating documents.
