Civil Surgeon Dr P K Gupta said that the death occurred due to Cerebral Hypoxia

State-run District Hospital, situated at Pandri in capital city Raipur, has come under scanner following the death of two newborns on Tuesday. Civil Surgeon Dr P K Gupta confirmed that the two newborns died due to Cerebral Hypoxia, which occurs when the brain does not get enough oxygen. Dr Gupta said that the death occurred at the District Hospital situated at Pandri despite of proper medical attention given to them. He also confirmed that District Collector Saurabh Kumar had visited the District Hospital around 12.30 pm on Wednesday after receiving reports pertaining to the death of the newborn. The Collector gathered information on the death of newborns and asked the hospital administration for furnishing related documents, said Dr Gupta, adding, the District Collector also talked to the doctors and staff present in the ward and engaged in the treatment.

Dr Gupta rubbished the report of seven deaths of newborn in the hospital. Amidst rising number of Covid-19 positive cases in Raipur district and prediction on possible third wave, the death of two newborn in District Hospital has posed a new challenge before the District Administration and Health Department. Meanwhile, Dr Gupta said that the District Collector has called the report on the death and related documents for further enquiry, while refuting any laxity on the part of the hospital. According to the information, one Janki Sinha, pregnant wife of Mana Basti resident Ghanshyam Sinha, was referred to District Hospital from Mana Health Centre on Monday around 7.45 am.

She gave birth to a boy child, which was her fourth, around at 9.12 am. The newborn neither cried nor showed any movement immediately after the birth. Keeping this in mind, the child was admitted to the NICU and his father Ghanshyam was detailed about the condition of his son. The newborn breathed his last during treatment between 8 and 9 pm on Monday. The relatives created a chaos in the hospital in the presence of media. This chaos had sent panic among the other parents and pregnant women admitted in the ward.
