Taking a step forward on the path to improve the green cover of the city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has established an ‘Oxygen Park’ at Omkar Nagar in Hanuman Nagar Zone. The park was dedicated to public by Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari on Saturday. To mark the 75th Independence Day of India, NMC has planned to establish 75 Oxygen Parks in North and East Nagpur.

These parts of the city lack enough greenery as compared to the green cover in Central and West Nagpur. The plantation drive was launched on Saturday at a ground near Centre Point School, Binkar Colony, Omkar Nagar at the hands of Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari. Addressing the small gathering, Mayor said, “In the time of pandemic such Oxygen Parks will help to overcome the Oxygen crisis naturally. Every individual should come forward and plant saplings and maintain them for their own health.”

Rs 25 lakh from NMC special fund are spent to establish the Oxygen parks. A walking track was also constructed for citizens in the park. To improve the air quality of the city, NMC will establish green spots at traffic junctions and also plant saplings on all road dividers of newly-constructed roads across the city. After the inauguration of the Oxygen park, those present also planted saplings and took oath for their maintenance.
