RAIPUR,

INCESSANT rains and cool gusty winds brought down the temperature across State on Wednesday. With monsoon showers nearly covering the entire State, the temperatures dropped by around 5 degree Celsius amidst frequent rainfall. With the sudden shift in weather conditions and formation of multiple systems, weathermen have warned of heavy rainfall across State upto July 31. As such, the ongoing rainfall activities are expected to get further extended. Though the overall average rainfall recorded in all districts across the state is 530.0mm against the normal of 531.8mm, several districts still feature in the rain deficient list.

Among the deficient districts, Surguja has recorded 33 per cent lower rainfall this rainy season commencing from June 1 to July 28. The other districts that still feature in the less rainfall category prominently include Jashpur (-29 per cent), Dantewada (-28 per cent), Kanker (-27 per cent) and Bastar (-26 per cent). Meanwhile, the MeT Centre in its forecast stated of a low pressure area persisting over the coastal area of Bangladesh and the neighbouring West Bengal along with a cyclonic circulation extending upto central tropospheric level on Wednesday. Similarly, a monsoon trough lies extended from Hissar, Merrut, Hardoi, Sultanpur, Nalanda, Bokaro to the centre of the existing low pressure area. Under the influence of these systems, moderate to medium rainfall is expected at maximum places in State on July 29. The heavy rainfall is mainly expected in the Central and Northern part of State. Sky will be cloudy over Raipur with few spells of light to medium rainfall likely on Thursday, the MeT Centre stated.
