A little known hamlet Shiv Nagar Chandon of Itarsi (Hoshangabad) suddenly shot to limelight when a local lad of this village Vivek Sagar Prasad smashed a goal in 58th minute in India’s hockey match against Argentina in Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Thursday. Entire hamlet is feeling proud on the success of Vivek Sagar. Most importantly, family of Vivek Sagar is on ‘Cloud Nine’ after the stellar performance of Vivek Sagar in Tokyo Olympic. ‘The Hitavada’ spoke to brother of Vivek Sagar, Vidya Sagar Prasad, who told that family and others were glued to television screen, watching the match. When Vivek hit the goal, all stood up in joy and started to scream crazily. There was no end to their happiness.

His family had arranged a generator so that if there is no electricity then it could be used to watch the television. After the match, he spoke to Vivek Sagar on phone. Vivek told that he is focusing on tomorrow’s match with Japan and more concentration is on quarter final match. He also said that finally Vivek Sagar has realised his dream of hitting the goal in Olympics. “In starting, Vivek used to play with local boys and developed fondness towards hockey. Later, he became serious towards hockey.

He was a disciplined person as he used to get up on time in morning to go to field to play hockey,” he said. He added that Vivek’s passion for hockey led him to academy. His performance also attracted the attention of selectors. In 2015, he got selected in Junior India team. Later, he suffered from collar bone injury and thus missed the Hockey World Cup. The worst was yet to follow as owing to high dose of medicines, he later developed intestine problem. “Vivek had developed holes in intestine and whatever he used to eat, used to come out of intestine and he often used to develop severe stomach-ache. Vivek was in critical state and even doctors have given up. However, Vivek is a very positive person and his positive energy helped him in recovery,” he told.
