CITY’S lone Grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani once again brought laurels to the nation by pocketing Spilimbergo Open Masters Chess Tournament that concluded on Independence Day in Italy. This was Sadhwani’s seventh tournament in a row in Europe. In the week-long tournament Sadhwani accumulated seven points form nine rounds. He remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. The 15-year-old lad gained +10 ELO Rating points for the stunning win. During the entire week, Sadhwani played some quality chess to lay hands on the trophy at stake. Speaking after his win, Sadhwani said, “Always a nice feeling to win a tournament and that too on 75th Independence Day makes it much more special.

I am glad that I played well throughput the tournament and finally managed to become champion. I am happy that I was also able to handle those intense battles over the board quite well.” Sadhwani took the opportunity to thank coaches and sponsors. “I want to thank my mentor GM Viswanathan Anand Sir, my sponsors West Bridge Anand Chess Academy, Microsense Networks, Chennai for their constant support.
