PDJ More inaugurated exhibition-cum-sale at Central Jail Nagpur 
 
Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDJ) S C More on Wednesday said that the prisoners have become criminals due to circumstances. Their art will help them in getting accommodated in social mainstream. He was speaking after inaugurating exhibition-cum-sale of Rakhis, wooden articles and clothes made by the jail inmates. It is open for the citizens at Central Jail premises. Impressed by the articles made by the inmates, Judge More said that the prisoners have made very beautiful household items. “I had no idea that there would be artisans in this prison.
 
The main objective seems to be that, if their time in jail is turned into good work, the inmates will definitely see a change in their nature,” opined Judge S C More. Jail Superintendent Anup Kumre informed that a platform of showing latent talent was provided by the prison administration to the inmates. The articles were made in the factory section of the jail. The prisoners have been given a variety of training to develop their latent qualities. The sales center is open from morning to evening hours till August 25. Prison inmates have created these items with great diligence and ingenuity. The items made by prisoners include wooden chairs, wooden stools, dressing tables, armchairs, sky lamps, bangle stands, pen stands, turtle shaped betel nut boxes, towels, dupattas, chair mats, kitchen aprons and others, he said.
 
DySP, Prison, Deepa Aage informed that the Nagpur prison has six factories which are generating revenue of more than Rs six crore every year. After the outbreak of Covid-19, the revenue dipped to Rs 1.20 crore this year. “The Nagpur prison got a contract to provide furniture to the newly-constructed building of court at Nagpur,” she said, adding that the prison department had provided furniture to Amravati, Dhule and other courts in the State. Sangeeta Tekade, Ujjwala Patankar ,Vocational Instructor and Guide (Pune) and Mr. Nilesh Sathe, Business Guide were present in the programme.
