JD lifesaver course is useful for youths: Gadkari

DISTRICT Disaster Management Authority, Collector Office, Nagpur and JD Sports Foundation (JDSF) jointly organised JD Lifesaver (Basic) Training Programme under its Drowning Prevention and Road Safety Awareness Programme recently. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari declared the meet open. This course was held under the framework of Collector of Nagpur R Vimala. In his inaugural speech, Gadkari highlighted the importance and need for technical education for road and water safety through which one can prevent damage to human lives and financial losses. “In many cases, we see that the victim doesn’t get proper attention and emergency response due to the lack of professional or skilled first responders thereby leading to death of victim. JD Lifesaver Course will impart the knowledge of emergency first response and help in capacity building of youth. Through this course, the youth will be able to contribute a lot towards the entire society.
 
The government in its own capacity is working rigorously to reduce such death incidents. NGOs like JD Sports Foundation are coming forward bringing awareness that is reducing number of road and water accidents,” Gadkari said. Padma Shri MP Dr Vikas Mahatme explained the working of Road Safety Committee in Nagpur district. He added that along with the road safety committee, the awareness programmes of JD Sports Foundation and JD Lifesavers will definitely be helpful to reduce the number of road accidents. After such incident, the contribution of youth will be highly important during the golden hour — first emergency response to the victims. Chief guest Mayor Daya Shankar Tiwari expressed that it was need of the hour to reduce accidents on road and in water. Youth and citizens need to seriously follow the rules regarding the safety precautions. Executive Director of Badve Engineering Group and founder of Sportsindi Supriya Badve said that the role of youth is highly crucial in the times of emergencies. She congratulated District Disaster Management Authority and JD Sports Foundation for organising such innovative and useful programme.
 
Assistant Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Malviya said that everyone and especially the youth should religiously follow the road safety rules. Talking on the topic of, Drowning is Preventable, Former Joint Director of Sports and Youth Services, Government of Maharashtra and the founder of JDSF Dr Jaiprakash Duble, explained about the reasons behind the death due to drowning ,the action plan to prevent drowning, and responsibilities of different institutions in order to prevent drowning. District Disaster Management Officer Ankush Gawande talked about the institutional framework of disaster management and the role of NDRF and SDRF at the time of disaster. Around hundred youths from all over the district took part in the event. This is the first time in the state that an NGO has come forward to work with administration on road and water safety. Secretary of JDSF and the Chief Co-ordinator of JD Lifesaver (Basic) Course Jayant Duble proposed a vote of thanks.
