Marking the occasion of World Breastfeeding Day, Jabalpur branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) conducted an awareness programme at Rani Durgavati Hospital (Lady Elgin). President, IMA, Dr Deepak Sahu, Joint Director, Health Services, Dr Sanjay Mishra, Hospital Superintendent, Dr Rajesh Khare, President, Women’s Doctors’ Wing, Dr Chitra Jain and Secretary, Dr Sonal Richariya and other medical experts were present during the programme. Subject experts, Dr Suraj Sahu and Dr Neha Jain explained the new mothers about significance of breastfeeding for healthy physical and mental growth of infants.
 
Dr Jain said that breastfeeding after birth strengthened the infants’ immune system and protect them from different critical diseases. Breastfeeding helps to ensure strong bonding between mother and infant. IMA President, Dr Sahu emphasised on public awareness to promote breastfeeding among new mothers. As there are huge benefits that breastfeeding can bring to both physical and mental health of babies.
