NFA celebrates World Fencing Day

NAGPUR Fencing Association (NFA) celebrated World Fencing Day, held on September 11 every year, that aims to unify the fencing community around the world, with enthusiasm. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) celebrated this year’s edition of World Fencing Day on social media. Celebrations were held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. Centering around the theme of ‘Fencing, a Passion, a Family’, the FIE encouraged fans to post a video or photo on social media. With relaxed COVID protocol in the city, all the junior and senior fencer of NFA enjoyed the day holding a demonstration of the sport. Pranay Pimpalkar and Kunal Shiware presented a demo of the sport. Mohammed Shoeb, Secretary, Nagpur Fencing Association addressed the gathering informing them about the importance of the day.
 
NIS Coach Rahul Mandavkar, Ankit Gajbhiye, Parikshit Gudiya, Nandkunal Dhanvijay, Akash Thakre, senior players Sumit Sonkusare Satyam Pasarkar, Siddharth Dhone, Yash Sontakke, Awesh Somkuwar, Shruti Joshi, Sharwari Gosewade, Vidnayni Umate, Ashwini Tembhurne, Harshada Damkondwar, Arushi Singh, Lumbini Meshram, Akanksha Gaikwad and many junior players were present on the occasion. Abhilash Barapatre conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks. Among those who celebrated World Fencing Day on social media were the Global Association of International Sports Federations and the Olympic Council of Asia. “World Fencing Day 2020 brings people world-wide together to love, learn and think about fencing,” the FIE had said in a statement. “We can achieve our dreams by supporting, respecting and honouring everyone in our sport. Our actions define our history, and we are ready to face the future together.”
