C’garh first state to draft policy for third gender: CM Baghel

Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to draft a policy for welfare of people belonging to the third gender community and to connect them with the mainstream of the society, said Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. CM Baghel stated this during a programme at his residence office in Raipur to felicitate 13 newly-appointed constables of third gender community. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister extended greetings and wished for their bright future. “For the rehabilitation of third genders and protection of their rights, Chhattisgarh Government has constituted a welfare board. Moreover, the State Government has made a provision of Rs 76 lakh in this year’s budget for setting-up of ashram-cum-rehabilitation center for third gender people,” said CM Baghel, elaborating that this is going to be the first of its kind center in India.
 
CM Baghel further elaborated that online software has been developed to compile the data related to the third gender community and managed to identify 2919 third genders. Of the total identified third gender people, identity cards have been issued to 1,025 people who are now eligible for ration card, passport, Aadhaar and others. Speaking to the third genders appointed as constable, CM said, “By taking benefit of the Chhattisgarh Government’s policy and programme run for the welfare of the third gender community, you have given new direction to your life and become inspiration for others.” Meanwhile, the newly-appointed constables expressed gratitude towards CM Baghel for the policy drafted in the interest of third gender people. Chhattisgarh Government is working to protect the interests and constitutional rights of the people of all caste, class, community and gender in State, said CM Baghel, elaborating that it is the policy of State Government to promote social harmony.
 
As many as 97 candidates belonging from third gender community participated in the constable recruitment process, of which 23 aspirants selected for physical test and 13 persons managed to get selected, informed Director (social welfare) P Dayanand, elaborating that the selected candidates are now posted in separate districts. Chhattisgarh’s Health Department T S Singhdeo, Agriculture and Water Resource Minister Ravindra Choubey, Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam and others were present during the programme.
