LPG cylinder price hiked by Rs 165.50 in 8 mths

THE oil marketing companies (OMCs) have hiked the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price by Rs 25 per cylinder of 14.2 kilogram on Wednesday. In the city, LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 936.50 per cylinder compared to August price at Rs 911.50 per cylinder. This is the first hike of LPG prices in the month of September. Similarly, the LPG commercial cylinder of 19 kg has been raised by Rs 75. It now costs Rs 1,834.50 per cylinder in the city. Between January 1 and September 1, the price of domestic LPG cylinder has gone up by Rs 165.50 each. In January the LPG cylinder was priced at Rs 746 per cylinder, is currrently priced at Rs 936.50, a total difference of Rs 165.50, sources said. The domestic LPG cylinder prices have been steadily rising during the year putting a deep hole in the pocket of the common man who is already under the burden of high inflation.
 
The Government is currently providing subsidy on the sale of domestic LPG cylinders to the consumers. The subsidy amount is directly credited to the individual’s bank account after the purchase of the cylinder. The subsidy of Rs 40.10 will be deposited in the bank account of consumers which have not exhausted their quota of 12 cylinders in the year. OMCs revise prices of LPG cylinders, which is primarily dependent on the international benchmark rate of LPG, and the US dollar and rupee exchange rate, sources added.
