Two-day awareness program on National Pharmacovigilance Week was organized by the Department of Pharmacology, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College (PJNMMC). During the event, Dr. Usha Joshi, Head of the Department of Pharmacology informed about the various dimensions of Pharmacovigilance and informed about the importance of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting in the general public and health sector to improve patient safety. National Pharmacovigilance Week is observed every year from 17 to 23 September for Physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other medical professionals are key components of the health care system that contribute to patient safety. National Pharmacovigilance Week was organized with the objective of reporting adverse drug reactions and making its importance to the general public. Informing about the various dimensions of Pharmacovigilance, a speech was given by all the doctors of the department.

 

Organized slogan writing, quiz and poster writing for post graduate students and prizes and certificates were given to the winning students. All the heads of departments and postgraduate students participated in the program. At the end of the program, Preeti Singh Pharmacovigilance Associate gave training on filling ADR form. Pharmacovigilance, also known as drug safety, is the pharmacological science concerned with the collection, detection, evaluation, monitoring and prevention of adverse effects of pharmaceutical products.

 

Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) is an unwanted or harmful reaction related to the use of a medicinal product that is experienced following a combination of drugs under normal circumstances of use of a drug. In such case, the drug will usually need to be discontinued or the dose is reduced. The general public, patients, students, people associated with the field of education can also report ADR.
