CITY’S international long distance runner Prajakta Godbole lived up to her reputation while discus thrower Jayant Warambhe surprised all as both bagged a silver medal each in the State Athletics Selection Trials at Meenatai Thakre Sports Complex, Nashik on Thursday. Prajakta won the white metal in the 10,000m run. Fitness Forever Sports Club’s Prajakta, competing in the women’s open age group, clocked 36 min 07 secs to finish second behind host city’s Sanjivnai Jadhav who completed the distance in 35 min 19 secs for gold medal.
 
Thane’s Ashwini Paikrao was well behind but won bronze clocking 42 min 56 secs. Prajakta trains under the watchful eyes of Gaurav Mirase. In the Under-23 men’s discus throw event, Om Sai Sporting Club, Umred’s Warambhe pocketed a silver throwing the steel disc to 43.80m. He was 30 centimetre shy of gold winner Pruthviraj Nalawadi of Pune who threw it to a distance of 44.10 metres. Satara’s Omkar Bhosale took bronze with 42.23m effort. Jayant trains under Praful Bele. In the Under-23 category, Nikhil Khobragade finished outside the medal bracket at sixth place in 1500m race. A regular member of All Pro-Track and Field, Nikhil is coached by Gajanan Thakre.
 
In the same age group, Shantanu Choube was third in the semi-finals. He trains at Om Sai Sporting Club in Umred under Swapnil Gawli. Nagpur District Athletics Association President Gurudev Nagrale; Secretary Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Corporator Nagesh Sahare, SJ Anthony, Umesh Naidu, Ramchandra Wani, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Archana Kottewar, Prof Bunty Yadav, Dr Vibekanand Singh, Ravindra Tong, Jitendra Ghordadekar, Harendra Thakre, Sunil Kapgate, Mangesh Paunikar, Amit Thakur, Chandrabhan Kolte, Vandev Thakre, Brijmohansingh Rawat and others congratulated the medal winners.
