Continuing Medical Education (CME) was organised during 36th National Eye Donation fortnight at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College (JNMMC) the other day. Fortnight is being observed from August 25 to September 8. Non-Government Organisation working in the field of Eye donation for years were felicitated on the occasion. During Scientific session eye specialists and Medico Legal Experts gave symposium on Eye donation, Medical Act, Technical and Social issues.
 
Eye specialists Dr Nidhi Pandey, Dr Swati Kujur, Medico Legal Expert Dr Lalit Shah, Eye specialist Dr Santosh Singh Patel and Dr Sushil Sachdev gave symposium. CME was inaugurated by Chief guest Director, Medical Education and Dean of Medical College Dr Vishnu Dutt. Special Guest was former Dean Dr P K Mukherjee, Dean of Kanker Medical College Dr M L Garg, Director Epidemic Control and State Programme Officer Dr Subhash Mishra and Superintendent of Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (BRAMH) Dr Vineet Jain by lighting traditional lamps. In his address Dr Vishnu Dutt said CME helps in upgrading latest knowledge and developments taking place in the field of Medical. Dr P K Mukherjee informed about formation of Eye bank and its benefits in detail. Dr Subhash Mishra gave information on facilities available in Regional Ophthalmic Research Council located at Medical College.
 
Dr Nidhi Pandey informed that even after declaration of eye donation unless until family members of the deceased permits the doctors cannot collect eyes. She said there is big gap between demand and supply of eyes due to limited numbers of organ donation. Proper transportation facility should be developed for safe transportation of donated eye after it is collected and taken to the bank as most of the eye banks are located in cities. Dr Swati Kujur informed that only after proper test donated eye should be accepted as defective eyes are not accepted by the patient. After panel discussion the CME concluded.
