Interrogation of recently arrested Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist in Jammu & Kashmir revealed that a Nagpur based man was tasked by JeM to provide logistic support to the terrorist during his Nagpur visit in July this year. However, the alleged JeM man withdrew himself from the operation for unknown reasons. The Nagpur police are now probing the case to identify the local man and to put him behind the bars. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the information about the Nagpur man came to the fore during interrogation of Raees Ahmed Sheikh Asadulla Sheikh by a team of Nagpur Crime Branch. Sheikh came to Nagpur in July to conduct recce of headquarters of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Mahal and Dr Hedgewar Smriti Bhavan Reshimbag, he said. The handlers of Sheikh had assured him logistic support from a local person. However, the man withdrew himself from the operation, said the CP.

The Nagpur police are checking links using digital tools to identify the local man. Sources claimed that the investigators have tasked Cyber police in the investigation. It may be mentioned here that Raees came to Nagpur by a Delhi-Mumbai-Nagpur flight on July 13 and checked into a hotel in Sitabuldi area. On July 14, Raees took an auto-rickshaw and reached Badkas Chowk with the help of Google Map. His target was to conduct recce of six lanes connecting the RSS headquarters. However, after observing police patrolling and a huge number of cops deployed for security, he did not dare to enter the lanes. Raees (26), a resident of Khati Mohalla, Chandara, Awantipora town of Pulwama district in J&K, was technically sound in electrical work. After getting him recruited in Jaish-e-Mohammad, Omar was sure to engage him in ‘fidayeen’ attack. After getting concrete evidence from J&K Police and Intelligence agencies in this regard, a case under relevant sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been registered against Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) at Kotwali Police Station.
