NMC to convert solid waste into CNG: Mayor

Presenting report of one year tenure as Mayor, Dayashankar Tiwari mentioned that despite much time being wasted in dealing with health emergencies, the performance was satisfactory, wherein many new concepts were introduced in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Overall the period was quite challenging, Mayor said had he got much more time at disposal perhaps many of the projects would have got completed in time. Interacting with newspersons on Sunday, Mayor listed out various upcoming tasks, with many of the projects in pipeline to address environment issues. Nagpur, now in developing phase, too has its share of issues relating to pollution and NMC has decided to tackle them head-on. Through help of NEERI, the civic body has planned an initiative to plant trees on road dividers to control sound as well as dust pollution.
 
Dr Lal Singh, a scientist with NEERI, had suggested the formula and already the project has got under way, the Mayor stated. Further, two companies have approached NMC, one is from Chennai that has technology to convert solid waste into CNG and green hydrogen. A 2-acre land will be provided at Bhandewadi to said company which possess technology that Apart from that for organisations and establishments besides CAB they have also to stuck with Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) and to deter any violation the fine of Rs. 50,000 is proposed for each instance of defiance.
 
Besides there is also discretion of forcing down the shutter of business till COVID-19 norms remains in place. Persons travelling in taxis, autos too have to continue wearing masks and the defaulter can be fined Rs. 500 and also the service provider faces similar fine. However for owner of transport agency the penalties is Rs. 10,000. Continued violation can lead to closure of operation of transport agency. In case of repeated and serious or malafide violation, offence under secs. 269 or 270 of IPC in addition of sec. 188 of IPC can be registered wherein the violator can be arrested and face imprisonment.
