WATHODA Police on Thursday booked 11 persons for allegedly duping Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) of over Rs 71.04 crore by illegally selling out 19.10 acre land leased out to them. The accused have been identified as Mahipat Shendre (65), Gajanan Shendre (63), Yashodabai Antuji Bondre (67), Sarjabai Namdeo Bawankar (57), Chandrakant Gajanan Shendre (45), Kamlesh Gajanan Shendre (40), Manda Gajanan Shendre, Premchand Mahipat Shendre (48), Dharmadas Telumal Ramani (60), Sheikh Mahmood Sheikh Mehboob (35) and Mukund Vyas. On October 1, 2002, the NIT had given 19.10 acre agricultural land at Khasra No 157, Mouza Wathoda to Mahipat Shendre, Gajanan Shendre, Yashodabai Antuji Bondre, and Sarjabai Namdeo Bawankar on lease by signing the agreement. The leaseholders had to pay annual ground rent to the NIT. However, they and their legal heir Chandrakant Shendre, Kamlesh Shendre, Manda Shendre and Premchand Shendre allegedly prepared fake land records and illegally gave power of attorney to builder Dharmadas Telumal Ramani, Sheikh Mahmood and Mukund Vyas who developed plots on the said land and sold them to other persons, causing a loss of Rs 71,04,82,501 to the NIT’s exchequer.
Following a complaint lodged by Pritesh Jagdish Bansod (36), Junior Engineer (Civil), NIT, Wathoda Police registered a case under Sections 420, 406, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused persons. The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch is likely to take over the investigation.
