Even as cops are after the drug peddlers in a bid to disband the chain of drug smugglers in the city, a strain of marijuana - ‘OG Kush’ or simply ‘hybrid ganja’ is quietly gaining popularity among the addicts. The youth are increasingly accessing the contraband as the tight grip on part of city police machinery has made availability of mephedrone, marijuana and charas quite difficult. Since last one year, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has directed the energy of cops in busting the drug smuggling modules and even put behind bars the main suppliers from Mumbai. With sourcing the traditional drugs getting difficult due to a crackdown by city police, the smuggling chain has turned its attention to OG Kush.

 

Even cops are not aware of more details at this juncture about rising popularity of this new form of drug that is quite easily available in Pakistan and Afghanistan areas. When contacted CP Amitesh Kumar told The Hitavada, “Cops have received some inputs about rising demand for OG Kush in the city. We have picked-up the clues from our informers and soon action would be taken against the drug peddlers. Anti-Narcotics Cell and other units have been directed to crackdown on sale of the new contraband in the city.” Sources informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the OG (Original gangsta or Ocean grown) marijuana is being consumed by the youngsters in Nagpur these days. They claimed that it costed between Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,500 per gramme. OG Kush is mainly produced in Pakistan, Afghanistan and the US and being imported in India through the sea route.

 

The plants of OG Kush produce dense, sticky buds a little different from India grown marijuana, the sources stated. Though similar to ganja, OG Kush has slightly different colour, its slightly yellowing in colour and aroma is quite stronger. Hence the kick that one gets after using the new variant is more intense compared to ganja. As OG Kush produces more psychoactive effects, the youngsters are becoming more addicted to the same and this is something to worry about. In city, drug addicts are getting the contraband from a drug peddler in Shankar Nagar area who is sourcing the drug from his chain that is active in Mumbai. A few well off youth are even taking off to metropolitan cities to get the contraband. These addicts are using rail routes to smuggle the hybrid ganja that is concealed in their bags, claimed sources.
