A 40-YEAR-OLD man allegedly killed his wife and two children by stabbing them with a sharp-edged-weapon and then died by suicide at his rented house in Jaripatka area on Tuesday. The man was reportedly depressed over losing a huge amount of money in cricket betting, police officials said. The deceased are identified as Madan Agrawal, his wife Kiran (33), son Rishabh (10) and daughter Toshita alias Tiya (5), all residents of Housing Board Society, near Dayanand Park, Jaripatka. Police are suspecting that the alleged murder-suicide took place in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

 

“As per preliminary investigations, Madan might have killed his wife first by slitting her throat and later stabbed the children to death,” a senior official said. Soon after, Madan hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a nylon rope, said police. Cops also recovered a big knife from the spot. The deceased man was reportedly involved in cricket betting and had accumulated huge debts after facing losses. The shocking incident came to fore at 3.30 pm on Tuesday when a friend of Madan went to the house. He knocked on the door repeatedly and also dialled his mobile number. When there was no response he suspected something amiss and called the neighbours. They entered the house after breaking the door and were shocked to see the spine-chilling scene in the house.

 

 

The children and wife were lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom and the body of Madan was dangling from a ceiling fan, informed a police official of Jaripatka police station. The gruesome murder-suicide took place in the bedroom where body of Kiran was lying on one bed and children were found dead on another bed. As no blood stains were not found on the floor, police are suspecting that the three were hacked to death when they were in deep sleep. After spotting an injury on the wrist of Kiran, a police official claimed that she might have resisted Madan. “Her wrist might have been cut when she was resisting Madan,” the official claimed. After allegedly committing the murders, the man hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a rope. “He used a bucket to hang self from the ceiling fan,” the official informed. Police did not find any suicide note from the spot till late in the night. The deceased’s mobile was seized and sent to cyber cell for further investigations. Addl CP (North Region) Navinchandra Reddy, Addl CP (Crime) Sunil Phulari, DCP Zone V Manish Kalwania, ACP (Jaripatka) Santosh Khandekar visited to the spot to oversee the investigation. A case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Jaripatka police. 

 

Bank had seized Madan’s house The locals informed reporters that Madan was operating one of the famous Chinese food stalls near Dayanand Park. However, he was under financial trouble due to his addiction to cricket betting. His house was seized by bank last year for not paying installments of the loan. He then shifted to a rented house in the same locality. A local claimed that Madan had a debt of around Rs 90 lakh. On Monday night, Madan’s elder brother Amit had transferred Rs 1,500 to him on the former’s request. Amit resides in Tulsi Nagar near Shanti Nagar where he runs a grocery shop. Amrut Nimje, the landlord of Madan’s rented house, said that he never thought such a shocking act would be committed by Madan. “He was looking like a normal and sensible person,” he said. A relative of Madan alleged that the addiction of cricket betting was the main reason behind the alleged murder-suicide.
