UNDER construction road in village Umarda has become a throbbing nerve for the local residents in general, particularly commuters. The local residents have complained of technical irregularities in the road construction work. They also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the District Collector PS Alma and demanded for taking relevant steps. It needs to be mentioned here that Kurud-Magarlod-Panduka access road is being constructed at village Umarda. Some villagers informed that in the middle of the village, there was a bridge for drainage and its height was appropriate. It was demolished and reconstructed by the concerned department and the height of the bridge was increased considerably. On being enquired, the officials replied that the bridge was constructed keeping in view the highest flood level. However, they didn’t give any satisfactory reply when asked about the highest flood level. Villagers said that the height of the road is opposite to the geographical location of the village due to which the daily activities of the villagers are getting disturbed.

Villagers said that the road was being constructed on top of the old road and due to this, the height of the road is higher than the actual plinth level of the houses. They said that this is not a national highway and its previous width was also sufficient but still, the road is being widened so much within the settlement. They said that the road was passing through very close to their houses which might lead to a possibility of loss of life and property in future. Apart from this, at present the road construction work is left in between. Due to this, a threat has been posing over the health of elders and children are dust hovers all over the road. Villagers said that after their complaints, officials had come for an inspection on the road and had assured that the issues would be resolved in five days. But everything is the same till now. The villagers of Umarda and other nearby villagers have decided to stage Chakka Jam on the road in case the issues are not resolved within a few days.
