NMC’s noble gesture to honour freedom fighters

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to put up a board at the houses of freedom fighters detailing their role in Indian freedom struggle. As part of the ongoing celebrations of 75 years of Indian freedom, the civic body decided to honour 300 freedom fighters in recognition of their sterling contribution. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari reviewed the progress on the plan and directed officials to expedite the project at the earliest. At the meeting held in civic headquarters at Civil Lines on Wednesday, Harish Dikondawar, Chairperson, Slum Area Development Committee; Sunil Agarwal, corporator; Deputy Commissioner Milind Meshram and Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Dhamecha were present. Mayor said that NMC has prepared list of 300 freedom fighters and also dug out information about their role in the Indian freedom struggle.
 
The nation is forever indebted to these freedom fighters whose sacrifice ensured that Indians today are living free. As per the plan, Mayor will present a citation on behalf of NMC and city to family of the freedom fighters and board with name and role in the freedom struggle would be put up so that generation next do not forget their yeoman’s contribution. Also it was decided to held a competition as to design of board from teachers of NMC run school.
