COVID-19: About 15,000 active cases in district

District registered 441 single-day positive cases on Thursday
 
 
Not panic, but fear among citizens is palpable due to sudden surge in number of people testing positive for the novel coronavirus. The biggest surge of positive cases in the State has made people feel that it is unsafe to venture out without adhering to COVID-19 protocols. Though the district administration is monitoring the arrangements and assuring citizens about its preparedness, people did not forget the harrowing situation most of them faced during second wave of the pandemic last year. With 441 positive cases registered on Thursday, the district saw the cases over 400 mark on second consecutive day. The new single-day cases have increased the tally of active cases to 1,484 in the district. Of the 441 persons who have tested positive for the coronavirus, 23 are not residents of the district.
 
There is a slight reduction in new cases in Nagpur rural but city reported rise in the cases as 379 persons tested positive for COVID-19. With these the cumulative cases reached 4,95,367. Of the cumulative cases, 7,009 persons who tested positive are not residents of the district. The district has witnessed a good number of recovery as 33 persons became free from the virus taking the cumulative recovery to 4,83,760. Number 33 has no positive impact on recovery rate as it continued to decrease. On Thursday it has gone down to 97.66%. On the fifth consecutive day, no death due to COVID-19 was reported in the city. The cumulative death count stood at 10,123. Of the cumulative death number, 1,626 persons who died of COVID were not residents of the district.
 
The daily testing count in district has registered fall by 2,000 to 6,243. Nagpur rural too has reported fall in testing to 1,624. Nagpur city’s testing count too has gone down to 4,619. This has taken the cumulative testing to 42,67,416. The samples examined through RTPCR were 5,340 while 893 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur. These laboratories include two State-run hospitals including virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (1,708) and Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (911).
 
The Central Government run, molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (911) too is there. One central Government run-institute National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (134) is also doing yeoman’s job. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (0) and private laboratories (1,686) are too contributing. Some laboratories are doing Antigen (893) test. Now almost daily people are being tested positive for Omicron the variant of COVID 19. On Thursday, 6 cases added to the present kitty of Nagpur district’s Omicron cases. These new cases have taken the cumulative Omicron cases to 30. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has created a special ward to treat people coming from abroad.
