ALL the Members of Parliament have a fantastic opportunity to bring about a big change in the legal framework of criminal laws practiced in India if they respond positively to the call of Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah. The Home Minister is seeking suggestions from the MPs regarding amendments in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act 1872. The move is in accordance with the changing times and circumstances which make it imperative to have proper laws dealing with it.

The present criminal laws in practice in the country have massive residue of the Colonial times which has to be shed at the earliest. The current dispensation at Centre has already done away with many archaic laws that do not fit in the current times. Amendments to the criminal laws is also necessary in tune with the positive thinking of the Government about larger public benefit. A comprehensive review of IPC and CrPC with such an enormous exercise of public participation bodes really well for the future and can ensure a level ground for every citizen of the country. Speedy justice is a right of every person in a healthy democracy.
