Jagjot ton gives Vidarbha

VICE-CAPTAIN Jagjot Singh Sasan’s timely hundred and a late two-wicket burst by seamer Rajsingh Chauhan gave Vidarbha edge over Andhra on opening day of their Cooch Behar Trophy match at Kalamna ground on Saturday. In response to Vidarbha’s 308, Andhra were 2-13. Vidarbha got off to a fine start with Tushar Suryavanshi (60; 134b, 8x4, 2x6) and last match’s double centurion Neel Athaley (34; 79b, 5x4) putting on 88 runs before the latter was run out. Skipper Mohd Faiz (11), another double centurion of Vidarbha’s opening fixture at the same venue Danish Malewar (6) and stumper Rohit Binkar (2) fell cheaply in quick succession to leave Vidarbha reeling at 4-126. But Jagjot (101*; 108b, 15x4, 4x6) changed the complexion of the game with his lusty hittings. He had two fruitful associations with Gaurav Farde (38; 30b, 2x4, 4x6) and Pratham Maheshwari (27; 50b, 6x4) that yielded 49 and 67 runs respectively. After their dismissals, he Jagjot loose to reach his hundred and helped team cross 300. Left-arm seamer Rajsingh (2-5) then took two wickets to put hosts on top.
