ONCE again in the match, left-arm seamer Rajsingh Chauhan provided early breakthroughs for Vidarbha who are now eyeing full points against Andhra in their Cooch Behar Trophy match under way at Kalamna ground, on Monday.
Set a target of 265, Andhra were 4-56 at stumps on penultimate day of the four-day match with Chauhan snaring all the four wickets to fall. The scalps included those of first innings centurion K Revanth Reddy (118) and skipper S Venkata Rahul who had made 92. While Reddy could make 20 in the second essay, Rahul saw his woodwork disturbed for a four-ball nought. With his inswinger, Chauhan had opener B Sujhan lbw for five for the first wicket. Then he had Reddy caught by Danish Malewar and forced M Yuvan to edge one for keeper Rohit Binkar.
Chauhan, who also took four wickets in the first innings, had a great start to the tournament when he returned with excellent figures of 7-25 against Manipur in the first innings to finish the match with a nine-wicket haul.
With Andhra still 208 runs in arrears and only last six wickets in hand, Vidarbha look on course for their second win from as many games.
Earlier, Andhra, starting the day at 258-9, lost their last wicket with the addition of just seven runs to be bowled out for 265.
Vidarbha did not start well in the second innings losing Tushar Suryavanshi and Binkar early. Though Neel Athaley (34), Danish Malewar (26) and skipper Mohammad Faiz (34) stabilised the innings, they could make it count big. First innings’ unbeaten centurion Jagjot Singh Sasan (86; 87b, 7x4, 6x6) continued from where he had left in the game earlier but missed out on another hundred. He and Faiz added 96 runs for the fifth wicket as Vidarbha made 221.
Brief scores: Vidarbha: 308 and 221 (Jagjot 86; U Sandesh 3-64, Mallikarjuna 3-31, H Kumar 3-57) vs Andhra: 265 and 56-4 (R Chauhan 4-39).
