PACER Nachiket Bhute gave Vidarbha a stunning start taking four wickets in his first spell helping the team thump Meghalaya by nine wickets to record their second successive win of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at CCFC Ground in Kolkata on Thursday.
After bowling out Meghalaya for 111 in 40 overs, Vidarbha, riding on R Sanjay (45*; 82b, 4x4, 1x6) and Aditya Sarvate’s (48*; 58b, 4x4) unbeaten knocks, crossed the line in 27.1 overs. Twin wins, the first was against Sikkim a couple of days ago, helped Vidarbha move to fourth spot in Elite Group B.
Bhute (10-3-21-4), who took two wickets in first two balls against Sikkim, was on fire again. He removed four of the top five Meghalaya batsmen with three of them unable to open their accounts. Seamer Darshan Nalkande (6-1-19-2), who got rid of the other two from the top six, made it 6-23 for Meghalaya at the end of eight overs.
Thanks to Rajesh Bishnoi’s (53*; 87b, 5x4) efforts, Meghalaya could cross the hundred-run mark.
Vidarbha all-rounder Aditya Sarvate (10-2-25-2), who was later promoted in the batting order and did a fine job with the willow too, took two wickets while pacer Lalit Yadav chipped in with one wicket.
Vidarbha, who needed to score big in these last two games to up their net run rate, could have done better during their chase. They scored the winning runs at 4.15 per over losing former skipper Faiz Fazal for 12. Like in their last game, the team think tank must have retained big-hitter Jitesh Sharma at the top. But promoting Sarvate wasn’t a bad idea either as his services with bat might be needed in the coming tougher games. The unbeaten knocks by Sarvate and Sanjay would help them get some confidence.
