CITY’S ace paddler Jennifer Varghese won both her matches but Nagpur District Table Tennis Association’s Under-19 girls team went down fighting in the semi-final and had to be satisfied with bronze medal in the 51st Inter-District and 84th State Table Tennis Championships under way at Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi, Pune, on Monday.
NDTTA went down 2-3 to The Suburban Table Tennis Association (TST) in the last-four stage.
Jennifer gave the team 1-0 lead getting the better of Ananya Chande. After being 0-2 down in the best of five-game match, Jennifer won it 3-2. The scores read 12-14, 2-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-5. Ikshika Umate lost in straight games to Sampada Bhiwandkar 11-5, 11-5, 12-10. Ananya Sakalkale was beaten by Mukta Dalvi also in three games 11-7, 11-9, 11-9.
Jennifer levelled it for Nagpur 2-0 pipping Sampada in four games 11-9, 3-11, 11-4, 11-6. But city’s another talented player lost to Ananya 12-10, 11-6, 11-7. Jennifer, Aadi in Semis
JENNIFER and Aadi Chitnis entered semi-finals in their respective Under-19 age groups on Monday. In the girls quarters, Jennifer defeated TST’s Risha Mirchandani 4-1. The break of scores is as 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4. Aadi eked out a 4-2 win over Aashay Yadav of Thane.
Aadi lost the first game 8-11 but made it 1-1 taking the extended second game 14-12. He took lead making it 2-1 by wining third game 11-5. The Thane lad fought back to bring scores at par again with 12-10 win. In the keenly fought fifth game, Aadi prevailed 15-13 and then wrapped it up with a comfortable 11-5 in the sixth game.
