The Education Department of SAIL- Bhilai Steel Plant distributed the PM Trophy Scholarships, SAIL scholarships & Merit Rewards to meritorious wards of BSP employees for pursuing higher education, on Tuesday in a function at Nehru House of culture.
The scholarships were given away by Anirban Dasgupta Director I/c Bhilai Steel Plant and other dignitaries present on the dias were Tapan Sutradhar, ED (Mines & Rowghat), MM Gadre, ED(P&A), S Mukhopadhyay, ED (Projects), AK Chakroborty, ED (MM), Dr AK Panda, ED (F&A), Dr M Ravindranath, CMO I/c.
On this occasion CGM (TSD & CSR) S V Nandanwar along with other Chief General Managers and members of OA and Union Representatives were also present. MM Gadre, ED (P&A) welcomed the guests and the awardees and briefed the gathering about the PM Trophy scholarship scheme. The Director-in-charge of the plant and the Chief guest Anirban Dasgupta in his inspirational speech said, “we do not only make the best steel, but also make the best students. Heartiest congratulations to all of you for getting this scholarship”, he said.
The Prime Minister’s trophy scholarship is a unique venture of Bhilai Steel Plant. The Scholarship amount is given under a scheme from a part of the interest earned from prize money of the 11 PM’s Trophies and the Steel Ministers trophy Awarded to Bhilai Steel Plant. The interest earned on the prize money is used to fund the scholarships.
In the first category, the Sarvottam scholarships, 75 students who have been selected to pursue their higher studies in the prestigious institutions like IIMs, IITs, NITs, AFMC, National Law Collages, CA, ICWAI is awarded a sum of Rs 25,000 yearly for the duration of their course. In the second category, 180 students are awarded Rs 11,000 for technical and non-technical courses. The awardees are shortlisted based on the scores obtained in the class 12 board examination. In the third category the SAIL scholarships were awarded to the wards - based on total employees currently in Bhilai Steel Plant. In this category Rs 3,000 is awarded to the students pursuing studies in the technical stream and Rs 1,800 to the students pursuing the studies in the non-technical stream. This year 317 applications were received for these scholarships out of which 69 students are of reserved category. This year, a total of Rs 40 lakh have been awarded to the students as scholarship. Out of 280 students 155 are boys and 125 are girls. 144 students belong to the engineering stream, 36 are from medical stream, 6 students are pursuing Post Graduate programs and 94 students are from various other streams. This year for the first the time PM trophy, SAIL scholarships and Merit Reward are being given away from the same platform. At the end of the programme, Shikha Dubey, GM (Education) proposed a vote of thanks. The show was hosted by Sarita Bahal, Head Mistress and Mahuwa Chatterjee, Teacher.
