In a Silver lining to strenuous efforts of conservation of State Animal, a herd of six Wild Buffaloes has been sighted in the Indrawati Tiger Reserve (ITR) by Forest Department staffers.
The herd was spotted and consequently filmed bathing in a water body inside the Indrawati Tiger Reserve.
Kanger Valley National Park Director cum ITR Deputy Director Ganveer Dhammashil confirmed, saying it’s delightful news for the state and the department. Forest Department has been relentlessly trying to conserve the wild buffaloes. The Department has been running conservation project in association with the local people.
The field staffers are continuously monitoring and patrolling in the region.
The department is trying to connect the villagers to conservation efforts so that wild buffalo population can grow in ITR. Since, Wild Buffaloes is found only in Chhattisgarh and Assam, so an elaborated conservation plan has been laid out and they’re also trying to coordinate with Maharashtra Forest Department for wild buffalo conservation as
ITR is connected to Maharashtra forest. Notably, ITR is spread over 2800 square kilometers and is a natural habitat of
wild buffaloes.
