Amid hue and cry over signing on the reservation bills, Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey paid a courtesy call to the President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday.
While interacting with the President, Governor Uikey inquired about her well-being and informed her about various welfare activities of the State. She invited the President to attend various programmes. This includes ‘Diamond Jubilee Celebrations’ to be organised on January 12 next year marking the completion of the 75th year of the establishment of the state’s prestigious Government Nagarjuna Post Graduate College of Science, Convocation of Amity University Raipur and the women empowerment programme to be organised by Adivasi Shiv Sanskriti Samiti, district-Narmadapuram from 12 to 18 February next year. The President gave her nod to attend the maximum possible programmes. During this, Governor Uikey also presented a copy of Raj Bhavan’s quarterly magazine ‘Ek Asha’ to President Murmu and informed about the innovative activities of the Raj Bhavan Secretariat. She also presented a shawl and a memento to the President. The sources claimed that the Governor also discussed with the President about the recent reservation bills- namely Chhattisgarh Public Service (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes & Other Backward Classes) Amendment Bill, 2022 and Chhattisgarh Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Bill-2022, which were passed by the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on December 2. The reservation bills will provide 76 per cent reservation in government jobs and admission to government educational Institutions. It may be mentioned that the High Court of Chhattisgarh had set aside the State Government’s 2012 order to raise the quota to 58% in government jobs and admissions in educational institutions and held that reservation exceeding 50% ceiling is unconstitutional.
