AN army man was arrested on rape charges from Ambikapur in connection with the offence registered here by Chhaoni, Bhilai police. The accused was remanded to jail from the court following his arrest.

Police sources informed that the accused has been identified as Ashok Kumar Kujur (27), a resident of Bagicha in Jashpur district. The police said that the accused Ashok Kumar Kujur was absconding for over one and half a year but with constant tracking and working on technical inputs the police finally succeeded in laying hands on him. The police also said that in June 2021, the accused Ashok Kumar Kujur was staying here in Bhilai when he allegedly raped the victim woman and also assaulted her and inflicted injuries upon her.

The victim was also allegedly threatened of dire consequence by the accused if the matter was ever reported to police. In the matter after complaint Chhaoni Police have registered the offence against the accused under Section 376 (2) (N), 294 and 323 and 506 of IPC.

Confirming details, Ramedra Yadav informed that Ashok Kumar Kujur the army jawan was deployed in Arunachal state and he was on leave and touring to places in Ambikapur when a Chhaoni Police team arrested him. In this connection the police have already informed that the office concerned in Ambala, Punjab regarding the arrest of the accused serviceman. The police are further investigating to establish finally the charges and prosecution in the matter.
