Intensifying its vigil ahead of New Year, Raipur Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested five persons, including two women, allegedly indulged in peddling/selling MD drugs.
“Following a tip-off that few persons in an expensive four-wheeler were carrying drugs and looking out for customers for selling it near Ambuja Mall under Pandri police station limits, the narcotics cell of Anti Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) swung into action and intercepted the suspects on December 24. During checking, the sleuths of ACCU seized 06.9 grams of MD drugs from the suspects,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Abhishek Maheshwari.
Maheshwari further informed that the arrested accused drug peddlers were identified as Prakhar Marwah (26), Abhay Kumar Mirche (19), Mohammad Awesh (22), Priya Swarnkar (27), residents of Raipur; and Neha Bhagat (24), hailing from Surguja district. The value of recovered drugs and a four-wheeler as well as a two-wheeler, which were used in the crime, would be around Rs 20.90 lakh. “During questioning, the arrested accused persons revealed that they had brought the drug from Goa. A probe to ascertain the network of the drug is under way,” the officer said.
In this connection, Pandri police registered an offence against the accused persons under relevant Sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and started investigation, said ASP City.
