Member of Parliament, Rakesh Singh performed bhoomipujan of new ‘Amrit Sarovars’ at village Jaitpuri, Jhirni and Bahnapani at Kundam block, on Wednesday.
MLA Nandini Maravi, Collector Dr Ilaiyaraj T, Chief Executive Officer, Jila Panchayat, Dr Saloni Sidana, Executive Engineer, Rural Engineering Service, K K Dixit and other local public representatives were present.
In his address, MP Singh emphasised on the necessity of Jalabhishek Abhiyan and appealed to residents to save water for later generations. “Following the path of ancestors who constructed different water bodies to ensure water availability, we need to make arrangement for water conservation for upcoming generations. Rani Durgavati constructed more than 65 ponds and Bawalis during Gondwana period to arrange prosper water resources for us. Though these water bodies can be constructed by the government, but public need to ensure its maintenance, care and safety,” he added.
A special campaign is being conducted for construction of 75 new ponds in Jabalpur
district with the support of social workers, public representatives and aware citizens. These ponds will fulfill the need of water to maintain underground water-level. It will help to store rain water and recharge the ground water level.
Singh further appealed to locals to give one hour from their daily schedule for Shramdaan to save water for generations. During Jalabhishek Abhiyan activities, the MP announced to provide funds of Rs 2 lakh for a theatre at village Jaithari and Bahnapani under the head of MP Fund.
