Ritika-Simran fight for 1-4 spots in women’s doubles

CITY’S Ritika Thaker and her Thane partner Simran Singhi have made it to the women’s doubles elite group of the ongoing selection trails at KD Jadhav Stadium at Delhi.
However, the Maharashtra duo began on a losing note. In first of their three matches for the number 1-4 spots, Ritika-Simran lost to the combination of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 21-11,
21-13 in 29 minutes. On the final day of the meet, the two will clash with their idols Sikki Reddy N and Ashwini Ponnappa whom they lost to in the league round and later in the day, they play Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishra.
Ritika and her partner Deep Rambhiya won both their mixed doubles matches for positions 5-8 on Tuesday.
They got the better of Edwin Joy-Shruti Mishra 14-21, 18-21 and defeated Sankarprasad Udayakumar-Kavya Gupta 19-21, 17-21 also in straight games.
Malvika Bansod made short work of Tasnim Mir in her women’s singles qualification matches for positions 5-8. In penultimate match of the tournament, Malvika defeated Tasnim 21-12, 22-20 in 30 minutes. She plays Tanya Hemanth next on Wednesday.
