FOR Faiz Fazal age is just a number and it is the game of cricket that keeps him going.
Faiz, back to back Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup winning Vidarbha captain, misses no opportunity to play the gentlemen’s game.
The southpaw opener is once again near the ‘Mecca’ of cricket and will be plying his trade for Lisburn Cricket Club playing different formats in the United Kingdom as their professional overseas player.
“Yes, I have reached here (Lisburn) and will be playing my third season with the reputed club. Actually, it would have been the fourth but due to the pandemic, we all missed one year of cricket,” confirmed Faiz while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ over phone from the UK.
The 36-year-old is still driven by the passion for cricket. On what motivates him to keep going, the soft-spoken Faiz responded, “It is just the game of cricket that keeps me going. Nothing more than that is needed for me to get motivated.”
In the last season, he was second top run-scorer for the Wallace Park in the region amassing over thousand runs with the help of four hundreds and as many fifties.
Faiz, who also bowls military medium with his right arm, is a very good option in United Kingdom where the ball swings more.
“I did well for the team last season and hope to continue with it this season. Our first assignment is against CIYMS (Church of Ireland Young Men’s Society) Cricket Club on Saturday,” concluded Faiz, who has played a One-Day International for India hitting an unbeaten fifty.
