The father-son duo accused for the murder of a Congress leader and one another peron were arrested by Gorakhpur police within 24 hours of the incident on Thursday. The accused had brutally murdered the Congressman for objecting to one of the accused from talking to his daughter.

It may be noted that three miscreants killed a grocery shop owner, Basant Patel (39), a resident of Brijmohan Nagar Rampur, who was also Mandal President of Congress, with a knife late in the night on Wednesday and fled from the spot after committing the crime. Police have registered a case under section 302, 34 and then started intense search operation for the accused. The three were arrested soon.

As per information, one of the accused used to talk to the daughter of the deceased, to which he had objection. On Wednesday night, the accused had dispute with the deceased and then he along with others committed the crime.

Gorakhpur police informed that victim Basant Patel ran a grocery shop. One Naman alias Abhishek Patel resided nearby. Naman often used to talk to Basant’s daughter. Basant had raised objections to this matter many a times and warned Naman to stop talking to his daughter. Despite this, Naman tried to talk to to the girl.

On Wednesday night, Naman alias Abhishek Patel and Basant Patel had an argument regarding the matter. During the dispute, Naman’s father, Ramdas Patel, his friend Adi alias Aditya Sahu also came and all three started beating Basant. The accused took out a knife and attacked Basant, who sustained serious injuries in the abdomen, waist and other body parts and fell unconsious on-the-spot.

Listening to the screams of Basant, his family members and neighbours ran to the spot. Meanwhile, the three attackers fled from the spot. After the incident, Basant’s relatives took him to hospital, but he died on the way only.

On getting information about the incident, Gorakhpur police reached the spot and started intense search by registering a case of murder against the accused Abhishek Patel, Ramdas Patel and Adi alias Aditya Sahu.

For early arrest of the accused, Superintendent of Police Jabalpur Siddharth Bahuguna (IPS) formed a team under the guidance of ASP City

North/Traffic Sanjay Kumar Agrawal and CSP Gorakhpur Alok Sharma. The team after vigorous search arrested all three accused within 24 hours of the incident.
