LOUIS Braille team clinched the chess tournament from visually impaired group while the Veterans team from sighted group claimed the crown during the special chess competition between visually impaired and sighted players which was organised by Ashadeep Apang Mahila Bal Vikas Sanstha, Rotary Club of Nagpur Downtown and Vidarbha Samshodhan Mandal.
The winners Louis Braille team comprised Gyaniram, Tijan, Saurabh and Sachin. They defeated the team of Shubhangi, Mrinali, Kiran and Abhishek.
The sighted team that won the title consisted of Shamkunwar, Barhanpure, Agasti and Bahadur while the runners-up team had Deep, Prathamesh, Arav and Saptak.
In addition, the best player on each board from both groups were given prizes. The tournament was conducted amongst four groups of four players each from visually impaired as well as for sighted players and the matches were played in four rounds. Apart from these, special prizes were given to the best blind female player and oldest and the youngest players.
The entire tournament was conducted by Sachchidanand Soman and Bhushan Shriwas of Chess Association Nagpur with support from Rotaract Community team including Ananya Sudame. Aparna Kulkarni, Secretary, Ashadeep comprered the programme.
Rotary Downtown President and Ophthalmologist Dr Rishikesh Mayee, Dronacharya Awardee Vijay Munishwar, Shirish Darvekar, Dr Pratima Shastri, Shabbir Shakir, Dr Rajendra Watane, Lalasaheb Patil and others also graced the occasion.
