The potato prices have surged from the past 15 days on the back of good demand from consumers. The potato prices are witnessing a steep rise of Rs 100 per 40 kg bag in the Kalamna wholesale market. “The potato prices have advanced by Rs 100 per 40 kg bag on good demand by consumers,” said Jaiprakash Vasani, wholesale trader at the Kalamna wholesale market while speaking to The Hitavada. He said that the harvest season has ended and limited supplies are coming to the market. Currently, most of the consumer demand is being met by supplies from warehouses where potatoes are stored. In the wholesale market, the potato prices are being quoted at Rs 700 per 40 kg bag to Rs 750 per 40 kg bag, as compared to 15 days ago at Rs 600 per 40 kg bag to Rs 650 per 40 kg bag, a rise of Rs 100 per 40 kg bag.

The prices are based on the size and quality of the commodity, he said. In retail, potatoes are being sold for Rs 25 per kg to Rs 30 per kg in different residential localities and markets of the city. Currently, farmers and traders are stocking potatoes in their warehouses. The stocks are stored and later sold in small quantities for about six months till Diwali and Dashera, he further added.
