Summer Birds’ Survey begins at Pench Tiger Reserve

Summer Birds’ Survey was inaugurated at Pench Tiger Reserve. The survey is being carried out in association with Wildlife and Nature Conservancy, Indore, from May 12 to 16.
Total 54 volunteers from different regions are participating in the survey. Local staff of Pench Tiger Reserve along with volunteers is conducting rigorous survey of 9 circles in core and buffer areas to identify birds species during summer season. Survey data is being recorded in e-bird mobile application to prepare a consolidated report after the survey.
It may be noted that winter birds survey was carried out at Pench Tiger Reserve from January 27 to 30, 2022. Total 69 bird specialists from 9 states attended the survey. In the winter survey, total 35 teams conducted survey in 9 core and buffer areas by making 11 base camps.
On the occasion, Field Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, Ashok Kumar Mishra inaugurated the summer bird survey in presence of other officers.
According to the report released by Field Director of Pench Tiger Reserve, total 251 bird species were identified during winter survey at Pench Tiger Reserve. Total 74 common resident species, 69 uncommon resident species were identified. Besides this, 33 uncommon migratory birds,
Thirty-three rare migratory species, 30 rare local species and 12 general migratory species were identified. Out of 251 bird species, 236 species are not under IUCN category while 9 species are near threatened, 3 are critically endangered and 3 are vulnerable category.
