Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel embarked on Bastar tour on Monday, commencing from Dantewada. Before departing for Dantewada, Chief Minister Baghel slammed the Central Government on the issue of reduction in excise duty on fuel stating that this will put burden on the states, while talking to the media in Raipur.
Baghel said that he is unable to get the statement of the Union Finance Minister on VAT. Baghel said that reducing VAT will not put financial burden on the states while states will incur financial loss due to reduction in excise duty. Chhattisgarh is incurring a loss of more than Rs 500 crore due to the reduction of excise duty by the Center.
The Centre should exempt 4 percent cess and implement excise duty of the time of UPA government. On the Jhiram case, the Chief Minister said that there is a BJP government at the center and BJP leaders of Chhattisgarh move the court. They do not want the truth to come to fore, said the Chief Minister adding, May 25 is the 9th anniversary of Jhiram incident.
