Bastar boy Lavyajyoti Routray has brought laurels for Chhattisgarh by securing the second spot in the 10th National School Chess Championship organised in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Lavyajyoti, a resident of Jagdalpur, scored 7.5 points in nine rounds played under the championship. He did not lose any match till the seventh round of the championship. He had drawn the eight round of the championship and lost to Tamil Nadu’s Sadhusharan (7 points) in the ninth round to settle with the second position. In other matches, Lavyajyoti defeated Khokate of Karnataka, Rishabh of Jharkhand, Tanveer of Assam, Rachishnu Datta of West Bengal, Raghuraman of Tamil Nadu and Kalko Ruben of Goa. Lavyajyoti had drawn the match against Madhya Pradesh’s Kavyansh Agrawal. However, he lost the ninth round to satisfy with the runner up title. Some other players from Chhattisgarh also increased performed well to increase their current ratings. Arnav Drolia, Shivesh Sharma, Soumya Agrawal, Pari Tiwari and Prabhman Singh Malhotra of Korba are at present have 94, 56, 11, 120 and 66 points respectively. The 10th National School Chess Championship 2022 was organised by All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) in association with KIIT and KISS. A total of 1026 players, including 331 in Girls and 695 in Open Category, from 27 states participated in the said championship which had prize money of Rs 5 lakh.
