Raipur,
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel dedicated Jhiram Ghati Martyrs Memorial at Lalbagh Maidan in Jagdalpur on Wednesday and paid homage to the martyrs of Jhiram Ghati.
The Chief Minister hoisted the tricolor about 100-ft above the ground in the memory of the martyrs.
“I salute the martyrs who laid their lives in the heart-wrenching incident committed by the left wing extremists at Jhiram Ghati on May 25, 2013, leaving several frontline Congress leaders dead apart from a number of Congress workers and security personnel. Those sacrificed their lives in the incident were the frontline leaders who had dreamt to bring change to the state – change in the lives of farmers, youth, children and women. Today they are no more among us but their exemplary work and guidance will remain with us forever,” said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister said that the martyred leaders would have been happy to see their party doing justice with everyone in the state, had they been alive today. However, their blessings are with them,
said the Chief Minister, adding, the Congress stands by the martyrs’ families in their good and bad times as they are all families.
The memorial has been established in the memory of 32 martyrs at Jhiram Ghati in Lalbagh Maidan of Jagdalpur and is dedicated to the public.
It is noteworthy that on May 25, 2013, 32 people including senior leaders Nandkumar Patel, Vidyacharan Shukla, Mahendra Karma, Uday Mudaliar, Yogendra Sharma were martyred in the Naxal violence. Many workers, jawans and common people were also killed in the incident. Jhiram Ghati Tribute Day is being observed on May 25 to keep the memory of the sacrifices of the martyrs alive.
