From the last four days, movement of a herd of elephant on the areas bordering Chhattisgarh, is creating panic amongst locals. This herd is nine in number, including two baby elephants. It may be recalled that under General Forest Division, Karanjia forest range, herd of elephant was spotted entering the district by following the compartment no 809 Senguda in Karanjai forest range.
This herd attacked a house in Bharra Tola of Sengua and then moved towards compartment no 802 Bijori, which is 3 km far from Chhattisgarh border.
Forest department is hopeful that from this spot, herd would enter the Chhatisgarh state. But still team are monitoring the movement of the elephants and public announcement has been made in forest villagers of the area regarding movement of the elephants. On Saturdays, this herd roamed in Sehjana and Gopalpur of Western Karanjia range. Then it moved to compartment no 740 ad 737 Dadargaon of Gopalpur forest circle. Then it moved to forest of Karanjia.
It may be recalled that last time when herd of elephant moved to Dindori forest area from Chhattisgarh forest area then they created rampage in villages and injured many. Hence now locals are afraid and alert also. Villagers have been advised for not venturing in forest to protect themselves. This time, it is matter of relief as herd is maintaining distance from residential area and moving in forest area only.
